Three EZ Steps to Writing a Speech!



Writing a speech is not as difficult as it appears.

It is similar to driving from point A to point B.

The trick is to know where you are starting from, the route you take and stopping when you arrive.

First, the starting point:

Obviously, if you are giving a talk it is because someone asked you to do it or you volunteered because you have some access to information that you want to make available.

Therefore, when learn of the subject; just start writing down some ideas relating to it.

Let's say Three Key Points!

For our example: ”How to Put Run a Half day Workshop"

Your Three Key Points for this example are:

Facilities and Materials

Time Allotments

How To, Q & A then Conclusion

1. Facilities and Materials

a) Public parking

b) On premises parking

c) Workshop room size

d) Seating

e) Audio Visual (if required)

f) Lighting and air conditioning

g) Restrooms

h) Computer (if used)not recommended

i) Give aways (Handouts, booklets, tapes etc)

j) Flip Chart and water based pens if using a whiteboard

2. Time Allotment

a) Opening, introductions and house keeping: 8:30am to 8:50

b) Start discussion on Facilities: 9:10 to 9:30

c) Start discussion on Materials: 9:35 to 10:00

d) How to Choose a topic and practice: 10:00 to 10:20

e) How to outline a topic and practice: 10:25 to 10:45

f) How to Deliver Your Talk /Volunteers: 10:50 to 11:20

g) Q and A 11:25 to 11:45

h) Conclusion: 11:50 to 12:00

3. How To, Q& A and Conclusion

a) Teach the participants something they can do while there and get them to practice that skill.

b) Don’t wait until the end of the program to field questions and answers. Do it before the conclusion for greater impact!

c) Briefly highlight what you’ve taught.
