Organizations often remark on how their teams function as a cohesive unit.

However, on closer examination; it is discovered that these organizational units placed together to come up with the Next Great Widget are really committees dressed up to look the part of a single unit.

As I’ve heard Alan Weiss say; when some members of the organization are rewarded for performances and some are not then what you thought you had is in effect wishful thinking at best.

Partnerships in organizations, like in sports have a common factor.

They Win or Lose Together!

No sports organization has only their Defensive unit receiving the winner’s trophy and the Offensive going home empty handed!

Both the Offense and Defense operate as a unit!

Subsequently, if the sales department works on a project with R&D, but it is only the sales department that receives the commissions, they are really functioning in the capacity of a committee.

In a true partnership all share in both the rewards and losses of the organization.

So which is it that you have in your organization?...The former or the latter?
