"How to be a Successful Mentoree"

To fully appreciate how to be a successful mentoree, you have to be clear on your goals.

Since most mentorship engagements last for six (6) months at their onset; the student should have an idea on what they would like to achieve during that time.

The following are some do's and don’ts when taking part in a mentor program.

Prepare questions:

Before calling your mentor have a list of questions you want to ask.

Doing this saves time by keeping you on track.

Do your homework:

If you are given an assignment make sure you complete it before your next call..

When you run into difficulty, send a short email explaining the difficulty.

When writing emails or calling be Succinct!:

Again, this saves time and helps you develop your communication skills.

Don’t Assume:

Ask if you are not sure of anything said or written back to you.

Be Proactive:

The onus is on the mentoree to contact the mentor.

Very few of us are endowed with Extra (E.S.P) Sensory Perception...

We don't always know when you need assistance or the questions you have.

Therefore, keep in close contact with Your mentor.

Lastly

Learn from the information that has been shared with you.

You should not be asking the same questions at the middle of the engagement that you were when you started it!

After all, how many times can you say:

“Doctor it hurts when I raise my arm”

only to have the doctor reply :

Well.."Stop Raising Your Arm!”

So what makes a good mentoree?

A good mentoree is one who...

Learns how to learn and applies what is learned!

Salaam (peace)
