Muneer A. Rasheed's Thoughts on "Speaking In Public"
Public speaking is perhaps one of the greatest phobeas people have.
The thought of standing in front of small, medium or large groups of people gives cause for the adrenaline to start the heart racing faster than a F1 car speeds around the track.
However, when one thinks about it; what ever the wildest of imaginations can conj our up will probably never happen.
Why probably?
Well, maybe there is a <0.001% chance that the audience in attendance will breakout in spontaneous laughter.
So What...Share in the laughter!
Speaking in public is a learning opportunity for both you and the audience.
The audience is there because they want to get some information that you possess.
As a result; They want you to Succeed!
That’s the nature of audiences.
Think over it...
When people watch a magic act, they want to be fooled by the illusion!
When attending an opera, the audience wants the singer to hit all the right notes.
Even when we go to the circus and watch the trapeze artists.
We want the one doing the catching to successfully grab the partner doing the acrobatic flips.
It’s only those who have a morbid sense of humor who hope the person flying through the air with the greatest of ease misses the catch and heads speedidly to the net below “Maybe”
However, those who watch you on stage inwardly Cheer for You!
They want to share in your success by living vicariously through your experience.
You are them and they are you.
In a way, you become the collective audience wishing for your own success!
See yourself as the audience and cheer for “You” the speaker’s success! And if the audience breaks out in spontaneous laughter
Embrace it!
Perhaps there is a future for you in Standup Comedy!
