Muneer A. Rasheed's Basics on How To Mentor
The basics on How to Mentor (personal instructor) can almost be summed up in the old saying:
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day…Teach a man to fish and he’ll eat for a lifetime!
The personal instructor takes this saying a step further.
As an instructor you discuss with your apprentice which rod, reel, string, hook and bait are suitable under various circumstances. As well as how to apply them.
The instructor should be able to provide specific examples for those who are being developed so that s/he can systematically accomplish his or her goals.
Example: Someone trying to land a Marlin will need to be taught a different skill set than someone fly-fishing for bass.
Therefore, the personal instructor should have a breadth of knowledge and experience from which the student can benefit.
While this paper only covers the basics; a person can be coached to learn the process of mentoring.
Finally, for those who enjoy assisting others to bring out their best; working as a Mentor is extremely rewarding!
