How to Keep Intellectually Fit!

Most likely when people think of keeping fit, their thoughts turn to diet and exercise. Both of which are important.

However, rarely do we think of mind fitness as a means to keep ourselves intellectually sharp.

Somehow, people believe that after formal education has been fulfilled; mental development takes on a more passive role.

An occasional newspaper article, the favorite magazine to name a couple is to the brain what a walk from the front door to the car is to physical exercise.

Others still rely on an even more subtle means of mental stimuli…namely TV and hearsay (gossip) to fill their intellectual thirst!

Unfortunately, most people have turned over their power of reasoning to the former (TV) and rarely question the latter while treating hearsay as coming directly from the source and pass on juicy tidbits of so called insider 1st hand info, as if it’s the gospel truth. The question is; if the gospel has been tampered with; how much more the information we receive from the numerous pseudo “Deep Throats” that we encounter over a cup of coffee or while riding in a taxi.

It was written, if you want to keep information from a people, just hide it in a book.

One of the first steps along the road towards intellectually growth is to turn off the TV and “Turn Yourself” on to reading.

Make it a point when you come across a new word to find out its meaning and find unique ways to work it into your conversation during the week.

The same is true for maintaining new vocabulary as it is for maintaining new muscles

Use it lose it!

Remember, when you strengthen yourself mentally, you are also able to lift those in your sphere of influence.
