Muneer A. Rasheed asks "Do We Need Diversity Training"
There is a trend now for diversity training in the work place.
However, given that most people in the workforce already share many commonalities, it seems odd that this is required.
So what are we really talking about since we’ve had ethnic minorities and women in the general work sector for many years?
For the most part (rightly or wrongly) through the media we have gained insights of these groups.
So, are we really talking about cross cultural awareness, if we are including those workers from overseas?
If so, the onus should be on those who would enter the new environment to learn about those who are already there.
The organization for its part could have an orientation packet to familiarize international recruits to the cultural makeup of the organization.
Additional activities i.e. family picnics, office functions and other activities can all serve as a natural way for members of the organization to bridge the cultural divide.
Given the chance;people like water will find their own comform levels.
