Part Two... "Why Asian Companies Lose Billions Annually"
Part Two: Why Asian Companies Lose Billions Annually
2. The fixation of asian companies on a few key customers.
Which gives rise to the “What ifs”
a) What if my client buys from less expensive market?
b) What if client demands surpass my present capability?
c) What if I invest in the relevant infrastructure in asia to meet demand only to see a shift in the market that curtails or significantly reduces demand?
d) What if… yada yada yada(add your own).
The 360 degree asian organization says…
What if I expand my client base and services offered in and around asia?
3. Lack of global vision by asian busineses.
During the earlier European push westward in North America people coined the phrase...
“Go west young man go west” and “There be gold in them there hills”
Today, the same admonishment can be made; Go global; there be golden opportunities for the brave of heart!
The one caveat is that asian companies should not to put all their eggs (as it is said) in one geographic basket.
Unfortunately, many asian businesses live and die by tying their hopes and dreams to the U.S market.
While that market is lucrative; organizations should seek out additional opportunities in the region (Asia), the Middle East, Africa, South American (including the Caribbean) and Europe.
In some circles this is referred to as hedging your bets and keeps the organization from a feast or famine predicament.
Some factors that play a role in keeping asian companies from broader expansion overseas are:
I. The success trap!
a) OEM revenue is too good to give up. “How can life be better than this?”
b) Viewing client’s branding success as their own. “We’re IBM! (Or...we supply IBM).
c) If it’s not broke don’t fix it! (vive the vacuum tube)
II. Fear of expanding overseas due to:
a) No perceived value in products or services offered (Clients won’t accept it)
b) Possible cross cultural / language misunderstandings (Hai = agree or understand)
c) Lack of experience (Not knowing what it takes to start)
d) Being cheated! (This might be a scam!)
While there is no guarantee of success; asian organizations have to have the mindset…No guts no glory!
